My whole outlook on how educational system should look like was turned upside down by experiencing student exchange in Sweden. It demanded from me increased effort in order to change my previous habits and get use to new one. And by new one I mean completely strange for me time management. Here in Sweden the pace of life seem to be much slower than in Poland. You can observe it in numbers of coffee breaks during work hours, the way people walk on the street (nobody seem to hurry) and also in the organization of academic year. It works as follow: the semester is divided in four study periods. In every single one of them you are allowed to follow only one course at the time. In the final week you have whole week out of school in order to write your essay/take home exam. Not only don't you need to divide your attention to different subject but also you are granted huge amount of time you deal with the one you have. It is all thanks to the fact than an average course consist of 1 lecture and 5 seminars, meaning to you go to the university only once or twice a week for 2 hours (so on average during the week you spend a total number of 4 hours there). It is of no comparison with my Polish experience where I had at least 6 subjects at the same time and were spending at least 3 hours every day at my university (sometimes even being there whole day from 8 am. till 8 pm). And yes, Sweden demand you to study much on your own and read at least 100 pages for each seminar and write a lot of 3,000-words essays, but even with this duties I still have a lot of spare time and I have completely no idea what to do with it. I have already visited every museum in Stockholm, went twice abroad, watched to many Netflix series, read so many books as I've never done in my life, took up learning new language, go out with friends basically every weekend, involve myself in voluntary service and was apprenticed to become a diplomat in Polish Institute but now I am running out of ideas what to do with it. Does somebody have any idea what to do with it?
