On campus there
are four dormitories for international students: on the east side „Guojiaolou“
and „Yihaolou“, on the west campus “White Building/Bailou” and “Liuhaolou”. On
every floor of every building there is a cleaning staff who works seven days a
week.
There is a variety
of rooms which can be found in the different buildings, as described above. “Guojiaolou” is the
newest building and right next to the main cantine and the Chinese building,
where Chinese classes from the Chinese department take part. “Guojiaolou” is
the closest dormitory to the subway station (about 10 minutes by foot).
Every floor in
Guojiaolou has a kitchen, which is not equipped with plates and pans. It opens at 6am and closes
at 11pm. There are four hotplates and two sinks. If you want to buy pots, pans,
a small fridge or different stuff, you can always ask the cleaning staff who
sell the stuff previous students have left there.
In Guojiaolou
there is also a common room on sixth floor, which can be used by everybody. It
is possible to play ping pong, relax on the sofa and play games which are
provided.
The floors are
usually separated by gender except for sixth floor in Guojiaolou.
It is not allowed
to bring guests to your room who stay overnight, but usually nobody notices if
you do. It also depends a lot on the cleaning staff on your floor, because they
usually know the people living on their floor.
It is not possible
to do room reservations for your first semester at BFSU. When I arrived, I got
to choose between a double room in Guojiaolou or Yihaolou. It always depends on
the agreement your university has made with BFSU. I know people who got to live
in a single room from the beginning, some had no choice and could only stay in
Yihaolou.
But I also met
people who were told to stay in a double room and complained about that by
telling their professors. After some days they got to stay in a single room,
because the professors insisted.
