Björnkulla is a small student residence in Huddinge, close to Flemingsberg Station and Södertörns högskola. In a group of houses exchange students and Swedish students live together.
The landlord is HUGE Fastigheter AB.
What are the requirements?
Exchange students from outside the EU are guaranteed accommodation through the University as long as the application is received by the deadline. For the autumn semester the deadline was in my case the 15th May and for the spring, 15th October (it may vary so check the university calendar). For exchange students from within the EU it is advised to apply as soon as possible in order to receive one of your preferred accommodation options as the place is limited.
How to apply?
You as an exchange student will be able to apply for accommodation through the university online system. Once you are nominated by your University you will receive login details via email. Here you will be able to select your accommodation preferences.
The number of rooms at each residence is limited so you are asked to order your choices (1, 2 and 3) on the application form according to your level of preference. You can choose between small single, large single and shared rooms. There is no guarantee that you will get a room even if you apply before the deadline, so apply as early as you can!
An accepted offer of accommodation is binding and the room will be reserved for a semester or the full academic year. You cannot change your accommodation once it is allocated. This applies both to students who stay for one semester and students who stay for the full academic year. If you turn down the offer you might not get another one and will have to look for accommodation on your own.
Small single: around 4000 SEK per month; big single: around SEK 4350-4650 per month; shared: around SEK 2400 – 3450 per person and month.
Rent includes water, heating and electricity. The exact size and cost of the room will not be available until final room allocations are carried out in July/November. Therefore, students applying for a big single room should be prepared to pay for the most expensive room available.
Each single room is furnished and has its own bathroom and a kitchenette. Each corridor has a fully equipped shared kitchen and there is a laundry room on each floor.
The single room is furnished with:
-Bed and mattress (200cm x 90cm)
-Desk and desk chair
The shared room is furnished with:
-Two beds with mattresses (200cm x 90cm
-Two desks with desk chairs
The room has curtains and there is a shower curtain in the bathroom. The shared room has a kitchenette and a bathroom. Each corridor has a fully-equipped shared kitchen and a laundry room.
Notice period: the contract is for one or two semesters, depending on the duration of your stay. There is a two-month notice period should you wish to terminate the contract earlier. N.B. the notice period begins at the turn of the following month, not from the date you give notice.
Car parking: Free of charge within the student housing area.
In the neighbourhood: Björnkulla is a small residential area in pleasant surroundings, including an outdoor recreation area, a lit running/skiing track and an outdoor gym. It is possible to buy a membership card for a gym situated in the same building as the Flemingsberg station, next to Södertörn University. Supermarkets are located in Flemingsberg Centrum.
