AI-supported text generators help to structure, correct and write scientific texts and can improve quality by making suggestions for correction. 

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is a tool for answering individual questions that can be used for creative and interactive tasks. For certain search queries, it offers access to the internet and can refer to sources. The tool also supports spoken language and is suitable for translations. 

You can use ChatGPT for free after signing up. The paid version offers additional features and unlimited access

DuckAI

DuckAI is a privacy-friendly alternative to using other AI systems. It doesn’t use your data for training, doesn’t store your prompts, and doesn’t require registration. However, there is a daily usage limit.

GWDG's Chat AI

The Chat AI developed by the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG) is an in-house AI chat service. Through a web interface, GWDG provides access to various existing open-source models, including, for example, DeepSeek.

The system was designed with a strong focus on data privacy: requests are stored locally only, and all inputs and responses are deleted afterward.

To use the service, you need an academicCloud ID, which is available to university members through their institutional login credentials.

Perplexity

Perplexity is an AI-powered research and answering tool that generates summaries based on individual questions. Users can enhance their queries by uploading files. It’s also possible to define the context of the request (e.g., academic) to receive more relevant results.

The tool provides source citations, making the information verifiable—an especially valuable feature for academic use.

Perplexity is available for free and without registration. A paid version offers additional features and a higher limit for advanced queries.

DeepL Write

DeepL Write is an AI-powered writing assistant that helps improve texts in multiple languages.  The tool automatically corrects spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and suggests alternative wordings. It also allows the writing style and tone to be tailored to the target audience.

Unlike the DeepL Translator, DeepL Write is not intended for direct translation but for text optimisation.

DeepL Write and DeepL Translator are available as free versions with a character limit. The paid versions offer enhanced data security and unlimited text translation. More information about both the free and paid versions is available here.
