The connection between culture and communication is two-fold. We all acquire the specific social practices of the cultures we belong to, including a set of communication patterns unique to each culture. Simultaneously, it's through communication that we construct culture and imbue meaning when engaging with others. This highlights the intrinsic interplay between culture as social practice and communication, since culture is both shaped by communication but also, in turn, shapes communication.
In this session, we will delve deeper into the relationship between culture and communication. Utilizing the expanded communication model, we will examine the dynamics that can arise in intercultural communication scenarios. We will illustrate various courses of action and reactions that may occur in such contexts. Lastly, we will discuss interventions aimed at fostering the co-creation of meaning and fostering constructive dialogue in intercultural settings.
